The importance of mental health support and suicide prevention in Shenandoah County cannot be overstated. Mental health issues affect individuals and families in profound ways, impacting emotional well-being, relationships, and overall quality of life. By providing accessible and effective mental health support services, the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office can help individuals struggling with mental health challenges to receive the care and assistance they need to lead fulfilling lives.

Suicide prevention efforts are critical in saving lives and reducing the devastating impact of suicide on families and communities. Through education, outreach, and access to mental health resources, Shenandoah County can raise awareness about suicide risk factors, provide support to those in crisis, and promote resilience and hope. By prioritizing mental health support and suicide prevention, the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office demonstrates its commitment to the well-being and safety of its residents, fostering a community where everyone can thrive.

The Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office Community Service Deputies strive to prevent suicides and addiction while encouraging social and emotional well-being for all residents in the Shenandoah County area.

We work collaboratively with community partners throughout Shenandoah County such as, Northwestern Community Service Board, Shenandoah County Department of Social Services and the Northern Shenandoah Valley Substance Abuse Coalition.

In 2024, the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office deployed the mobile Co-Response Team. The two-person unit is a Critical Incident Trained Deputy Sheriff and a mental health clinician, responding together, to crisis calls in the field. This allows for an expedited response to the scene, ensures safety, makes an accurate and compassionate assessment of needs, develops a plan to accomplish treatment, and can evaluate the individual in crisis as required, and transport the individual to a treatment facility.
