Property Safety

Tips for protecting your home on vacation:

  • Use lights with timers.

  • Security Systems

  • Be careful what you announce/post on social media. If everyone knows you are out of town and on vacation it could make you/your property more vulnerable

  • Tell your neighbors you will be out of town.

  • Make sure devices are unplugged (electrical issues are a common cause of home fires)

  • Call the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office and request an “Extra Patrol” or “Property Check”, or fill out the form, by clicking here!

Extra Patrol

An extra patrol Deputy “checks on your property/residence” by going by the address and making sure nothing is out of the ordinary.

You will be required to fill out a form, which can be done by visiting the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office or by clicking here, to request this service.

Property Check

A property check is when a Deputy arrives at your property or residence and physically exits his or her patrol vehicle and walks/checks your property. They primarily assist by checking windows and doors to make sure they are secure and undamaged.

They will also check and make sure no vehicles/person(s) are on location that should not be.
