Safety Programs & Resources

Project ChildSafe

Project ChildSafe is a nationwide program, affiliated with the National Shooting Sports Foundation. The primary goal of Project ChildSafe is to promote safe firearms handling, storage practices, and education. In order to avert firearm related accidents, Project ChildSafe has distributed firearm safety kits, to prevent the accidental discharge of firearms. To obtain your free gunlock, please contact the Public Information Officer at (540) 459-6100. For more information, please visit here.

Project Lifesaver

The primary mission of Project Lifesaver is to provide timely responses, to save lives and reduce potential injury for adults and children with the propensity to wander due to a cognitive condition. Citizens enrolled in Project Lifesaver will be issued to wear a small transmitter on the wrist or ankle, that emits an individualized frequency signal. If a citizen enrolled in Project Lifesaver gets lost or goes missing, the caregiver notifies their local Project Lifesaver agency, and a Search and Rescue Team will respond to the last seen or transmitted area. This technology enables first responders to use the client’s individualized frequency to locate the individual, in a safe and efficient manner. To become enrolled in Project Lifesaver, please contact the Sergeant of the School Resource Officers Division at (540) 459-6100. For more information, please visit here.
