Child Safety
Child I.D. Kits
Child identification kits have been designed to help Law Enforcement respond to missing children’s investigations.
Parents keep a photograph of their child, a copy of their fingerprints and a form of DNA (such as a piece of hair) in the kits, and then store them away in a safe place in case needed. The Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office also has the capability to receive the above listed information from parents and put it on a USB drive for the parents.
Therefore, if the time ever came parents would just need to give Law Enforcement the USB Drive upon their arrival on scene.
Child ID Kits are performed at any major event occurring in Shenandoah County or when there is an event occurring and the Sheriff’s Office has been requested to attend.
School Bus Safety
Motorists must stop for stopped school buses with flashing red lights and an extended stop sign when approaching from any direction.
Motorists must remain stopped until everyone is clear, and the bus moves again.
Stop whenever the bus is loading or unloading passengers even IF the lights and stop sign are not activated.
If a school bus is on the opposite side of a median or barrier, motorists are not required to stop.
Drivers should remain alert due to students exiting the school bus and potentially crossing into their lanes.
IF you pass a stopped school bus it may be classified as Reckless Driving in Virginia; a class 1 misdemeanor.
School Closings
School closings, delayed openings and early dismissals resulting from weather conditions or other situations will be provided to the media and posted on Shenandoah County Public Schools website, email, and social media sites.
