Child Custody 

The Sheriff's Office does not interpret civil documents we can keep the peace during exchanges if needed but do not decide what parent a child will go with.

Have I been scammed? 

If you receive a call and do not provide any information you may report that to us but as long as you don't give any personal information it is not a violation of law. We still ask if you call it in so we can tell the public.  If you do give information about yourself or financial information please report that so it can be investigated.

About Patrol

The Sheriff's Office has approximately 80 sworn deputies that perform the many jobs required to service Shenandoah County and it's citizens. One of the most visible divisions is the patrol division. On any given day you might see a car marked with "Sheriff's Office" graphics and lights traveling the roads and highways.

A patrol deputy does many things during their shift:

Answer complaints called in by citizens 
Provide a visible presence to deter crime 
Serve warrants issued 
Performs construction site checks 
Check residence while people are on vacation 
Saturation patrols
Enforce motor vehicle laws - Radar 
Complete follow-ups on cases
Community based policing - stopping and talking to residence

The Sheriff's Office invests heavily in career development; besides your basic academy training, staff has access to specialized training opportunities in a variety of areas.

Technology 

The Sheriff's Office is on the cutting edge with technology for public safety. The use of a multi-jurisdictional records management system provides in the field data valuable during calls. Also, the SCSO was one of the first in the commonwealth to have AXON body worn and fleet in car camera system that utilizes in the field video uploads and multi camera and car sync. Digital evidence is stored securely for courts.
